The intensity was high yesterday. A billion hearts pounded for Sachin. On 199 and deprived of strike as Dhoni takes a single of the last ball of the 48th and 49th over. Some, questioning dhoni's motives!
Afterall, Captian cool got it all figured out. The over that re-defined the history books! A widish ball from Langlevet, A whopping Six over Extra Cover, A single.............There he was, the man in the middle in all sense! Another widish one from the bowler, but tendulkar wasnt gonna miss out on it, tucks it straight to the fielder at short point, who fumbles(wont blame with the crowd roaring down his ears) and dhoni scampers across and the crowd ERUPTS! A billion praying indians turned into the largest party in the world with screams that can be heard atop the moon!
It had to be Sachin Tendulkar! Someone as special as him to reach the 200 barrier! A collective sigh of relief that he had made it. But it was not to be over there! Afterall, South Africa have a 100% win record on chasing a 400+ score! One way of looking at it. The Indian bowlers knew they had to do an equivalent of Sachin in their department. Gibbs was the man! He played the innings of his life in that record chase against Australia and Indians were weary of him. But, today was not to be for Gibbs! PK does the trick!
The Indians knew no one else was as dangerous and ferocious as gibbs, and they had the match as wickets kept tumbling as SA's were in pursuit of the immpossible!
A face saving 100 from A.B Deviliers. A good one for his personal record! So that was it...India sweep the series 2-0 with one to play(a matter of pride).
But what is most interesting, Sachin can not only break records, he has a thing for co-incidences as well. On 24th February,1988 he produced a record partnership in a school match with Vinod Kambli and in 2010,a double hundred. Kudos!
Wat better time as an indian, to start a blog on all things cricket! More to come!
Cheers!
